Powered Skateboards

Powered skateboards are zipping up and down the streets everywhere. These new boards are sparking a new and lightweight means of transportation for just about anyone. But these skateboards require some minor adjustments.
Make these boards with detachable power systems. These detachable batteries can then be swapped for newly charged batteries at charging stations wherever in the riding zone for a price. These charging stations can extend the range of the board and the length of fun by skateboarders.
These power systems can also be built into vests that are worn by the skateboarder – a thin power cord is connected to a USB port built into the vest power system and then plugged into a USB like port built into the skateboard. These vest systems and detachable power packs permits the skateboard to remain extremely light if the rider chooses to propel themselves with their legs while not using power packs. In this particular type of skateboard, the motors should be built with a switch or lever to allow the skateboarder to disengage the motor and then ride freely under a self propelled system.
There are skateboards with decent ranges. Some of these boards have ranges of 6 miles, 12 miles and 21 miles with speeds upwards of 20 mph.

If you will be riding your electric skateboard or non electric skateboard at night, you should invest in a pair of LED Wheels. These wheel will help others see you at night or dusk. (You’ll need to add skateboard traction tape to the top of your board to prevent your feet from slipping off the board, if the board becomes covered in snow.)

But should use your LED wheels during the day? Using your LED wheels during the is not required; because of the day light, their light effectiveness will be greatly reduced, so I recommend using your non LED wheels during day light hours and your LED wheels during the night hours. The disengaged motor provides the skateboarder with the ability to self propel themselves using their leg power. But another alternative to the disengaged motor approach is the truck swap.

Skateboarders can swap their motorized trucks for regular trucks. The motorized trucks can easily be swapped just by unscrewing them and screwing on the regular trucks. The trucks can then be stored in the skateboarders back-pack for reattachment later. This swap-out should take only a few minutes.

BATTERY STATION: Electric Skateboard and Segway Extended Range

The electric skateboarder can extend their range. They can do so by plugging a USB cord into the skateboard and then plugging the USB cord into a powered vest or back pack where extra and removable batteries are stored. This system also allows for the electric skateboard to remain light, because the power system is actually is worn by the skateboarder, so the weight of the board is reduced when carried or being self-propelled.

The electric skateboard can easily be stored in the trunk of ones car. It can then be used in an emergency situation if a person car runs out of gas or some other emergent or non emergent situation present. The electric skateboard extends the range of the persons vehicle a maximum of 22 miles. This range depends on the power cell powering the board.

Side Streets

Traveling the side streets to where you are going could be your best choice of travel. The side streets are less busy than main streets such as 95th St., 63rd St,, 59th St., Pulaski St., Western Ave., Damen Ave, etc. (These are main streets in Chicago.), and can prove to be much safer. These streets can prove to be much faster too.

If you do not need to travel the main streets on your electrical skateboard, then do not travel the main streets.

These electric skateboard trips are for the long distance electric skateboard rider. On these types of trips, you want to travel light and put two extra sets of wheels and three sets of ball bearings in your back pack in case you need them.

But before you take off, do your home work. Look for the connecting streets and towns that will get you from city to city and to your final destination. This information will become valuable as others electric skateboard enthusiast will probably want to travel your route to these places..

Skateboard Maintenance

Ball Bearings and Wheels

The main two items you will maintain on your skateboard are the ball bearings and the wheels.
You should always keep at least two sets of ball bearings in your back pack when you travel long distances or one set of ball bearings if you travel leisurely. Ball bearings wear thin and must be replaced. One way to slow the wearing of ball bearings is to keep them clean and well lubricated. The WD-40 lubricant is an excellent lubricant and can be purchased in a light weight can. The light weight WD-40 can be easily stored in your back pack. The WD-40 lubricant is a thin lubricant, so you’ll probably need to lubricate your bearings every 15-20 miles.
The other ball bearing option is the ceramic ball bearing option. These ball bearing last longer than the steel ball bearings, but you should still keep an extra set with you. They don’t weigh that much.
If you are a long distance or frequent electric skateboard rider, your wheels should be as durable as possible, meaning they must be made of the most solid material. Softer wheels wear thin quickly for the long distance and frequent rider; so the slide formula wheels should be the best wheels for the frequent rider and the long distance rider. They are highly durable and should prove to be very fast. But check with the skateboard dealer to be certain of the best wheels for the frequent and long distance electric skateboard rider. The LED Wheels are very durable too..
