Order of Study updating

Where should you start?

The basics steps in the direction of website designing and programming are HTML, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript (scripting language).  Study these three cornerstone languages, starting with HTML (one month), Cascading Style Sheets, including advance CSS (6 months), and finally JavaScript (2 months).  And as you make your way through the HTML, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript, build a few websites, let the languages settle into you for about two months as you revisit your notes and saved templates, and then move forward to your next means or method of programming.

But once you have completed HTML, CSS and some JavaScript, you should position yourself to enter the market as a website designer immediately.  The way to accomplish this immediacy is by adding two other programs to your skill set, a spread sheet, slide presentation and database programs.  Once you have completed the basics of these three programs, your skill set will now consist of basic HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, some JavaScript, a spread sheet, presentation and database program.  With this skill set, you are right where you want to be, because once you know the basics, you start building websites, and reference your manuals for everything else you want to do for a client’s website project.

Skill Set: I

So when choosing a study guide to learn the basics, choose a light weight book with fewer than 200 pages.  If you want to increase your understanding beyond your basic skill sets later, then purchase the thicker reference guide that offers everything you want to know about the skill set you want to improve upon.

Your next step in the direction of website designing and programming should be Microsoft Visual Basic Studio.  VBS lets you build components for your webpages without using code.  And as you build the components for your webpages, the code is automatically generated behind the scenes for you.  You can then study the raw code of the webpages to further strengthen your programming skill.

The advance skill sets you will need as a website designer and programmer are stated below.

Skill Set: II

Skill Set: III

Once you have completed skill set II, them move forward to the one of the programming languages below.  I suggest the Perl programming language because it is very popular as a scripting language and a programming language.

  • Perl (very popular)
  • C Languages (a must)
  • Linux (a must)

What You’ll Need

If you find that you want to become a startup programmer, you will need a few items to assist you:

  1. Domain name
  2. Website hosting account
  3. Text Editor or WYSIWYG Editor: Microsoft Visual Studio or Adobe Dreamweaver
  4. FTP Software
  5. Computer: Desk Top or Laptop (preferred)
  6. Reference Guides: HTML, CSS and JavaScript (Guide Contains the Basics of all Three)
  7. Pencil, Eraser and Notepad

You will spend a lot of time designing websites, so spend a lot of time studying cascading style sheets one (CSS1), two (CSS2) and three (CSS3), because attractive websites do bring in the traffic, and if the traffic is flowing to a website, then there is a good chance the website can generate revenue.  Spend a great deal of time with cascading style sheets.

Finally, finding a team to work with is the ultimate goal.  Look around the neighborhood at the coffee shops, libraries and book stores to see who is doing what you want to do in the world of website designing and programming.  Or post notices at the coffee shop to let others know what’s going with website designing and programming in your area.
